Blue jobs vs. red jobs!
Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 9:06PM So apparently I missed the pumpkin picking day in school because The Daddy thinks I’ve picked a sub-standard pumpkin this year. He asked me if I found it on the side of the road because it doesn’t sit up nicely. He also asked me how he was supposed to take the top off because the stem had been crushed and was too big anyway...how on earth would he cut off the top? You see in my house pumpkin carving is (as my dear friend N classifies it) a blue job. Blue jobs are boy jobs. Red jobs are girl jobs. Getting the boys ready for hockey is a blue job. In fact anything to do with hockey is a blue job. In fact I’ve been asked on more than one occasion to not even comment on hockey “because you just don’t know what you’re talking about.” Birthday parties are a red job. Organizing the party, buying gifts, sending out invites...red, red, red. Laundry...red. BBQing...blue. Raking leaves...red. Shovelling snow...blue. Taking out the garbage is supposed to be a blue job, until this morning when I didn’t close the garage properly last night and the racoons had feast on our organics bin...then it was a red clean-up job! So if the pumpkin carving is a blue job...then shouldn’t the pumpkin buying be a blue job too? Not so...grocery shopping is a red job, and pumpkin buying falls into the grocery shopping category. Though lucky for me he has devised a plan to “save our pumpkin.” Hang on friends...I'll post a photo of his masterpiece, he thinks it may be his best ever! The real question for tomorrow is...candy sorting: a blue job or a red job...purple I think!
The masterpiece is complete, but I can't find a candle to fit into the star shaped opening at the top of the pumpkin...seems candles are a red job! It's actually pretty good...but don't tell him that! If you look very carefully you will see a goblin with a trick-or-treat bag!!

Do they do red jobs in "red states"?
